Teen pregnancy refers to a pregnancy in a woman under the age of 20. Typically, it refers to adolescents between the ages of 15 and 19. However, girls as young as 10 can take part. Other names for it include teen pregnancy or adolescent pregnancy. Teenage mothers face many of the same difficulties as regular expectant mothers. Because they are less likely to be physically able to carry out a successful pregnancy or give birth, those under the age of 15 face additional challenges.
One in ten births in the Philippines are from mothers under the age of 19, according to the the United Nations making it one of the ASEAN countries with the highest rates of teenage pregnancies. The Philippines has the second-highest percentage, at 56 percent, behind Laos, which has a rate of 64 percent.
